About me
Hi, I'm Shubhankar and I like to make stuff.
This store showcases the products that I have designed myself to solve my own daily struggles. It's amazing what one can do with a 3D printer and a bit of CAD knowledge.
I love good quality, robust and purpose built products. But, I have be noticing that product quality and customer service has been taking a huge hit in the pursuit of fleeting profit. I, myself, have had bad experiences. This has led me to distrust these faceless brands, that buy a rebadge from China in bulk and sell it on their stores pretending that it's some revolutionary design they came up with. You must've come across many videos like these where they showcase a half-assed "prototype" and then show the "final product" in the next shot, as if they have spent their time designing, testing and refining the actual thing.
I know its probably not, but for some reason it just feels like a scam...
So when I got my hands on a 3D printer, I knew exactly why this was the perfect way to go. Here are some of the things I love about it:
- The designs are ACTUALLY ever improving, with every iteration.
- You only produce as much as is needed.
- No legacy design is ever rendered obsolete, because you can manufacture even a 10 year old design in a instant using the design file.
- In-house manufacturing and quality control ensures that the design of the product is purely dependent on your skills.
And there are many more, but these are the most important ones for me, because having the knowledge to fix old stuff, but lacking the spare parts to do so is extremely frustrating. And improvements with traditional manufacturing processes is too slow and expensive, but not with 3D printing.
I come from a long line of khetibaadi ya naukri (farming or jobs). No one in my family has ever even done any business, and I sure did get a lot of flack for choosing this. And they're right somewhere, because people who have business persons in the family know a lot of business related stuff inherently... I do not have that. So I might... no, I WILL make mistakes, but I'll learn from them as well.
Everyone I talk to about this just repeats the same things:
- Create a funnel
- Market the shit out of it and even a shitty product will sell
- "Target" a niche
- Create a large customer base
Maybe I'm wrong, but these all just seem ass backwards. Isn't the whole point to make good products? Will that not sell on its own merits? Will that not in turn create goodwill among customers? Will this not be enough?
This is what I want to try!
- Make a good product
- Keep existing customers happy
- ???
- Profit
I don't know... At the end of the day I just wanna pay bills and not struggle to live.
P.S. This got so long and scrambled. Sorry for that.
Just my unfiltered thoughts, might refine later!
P.P.S. Alright Bye!
